GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES

Someone has said, “A grandfathers job is to teach his grandson mischief he hasn’t dreamed of yet”.  I like that!

A while ago, Lincoln (and I) were getting bored on a family outing, so I started teaching him how to make funny noises.  The more time we spend together, the more we act alike – it’s just the way it is.  I think that’s why Jesus challenged people, “COME FOLLOW ME”.  We all tend to become like the people we spend time with.

LIFE ON LIFE INVOLVEMENT REALLY IS THE BEST WAY TO MAKE DISCIPLES!

Here are some important questions that I have been thinking about when it comes to making disciples:

  • WHEN JESUS COMMANDED US TO MAKE DISCIPLES, WHAT DID HE INTEND FOR US TO PASS ON TO OTHERS?   The temptation is to just keep doing what we’ve always seen done by others.
  • BUT, WHAT DID JESUS PASS ON TO HIS DISCIPLES?  This is probably one of the most important questions we can ask.  Isn’t this what he wants us to pass on to others?
  • WHAT ARE YOU DOING THAT YOU HOPE OTHERS WILL IMITATE?  If we hope to pass something on to others, we have to begin by making sure that we are doing it ourselves.  As the old saying goes, “People don’t do what you say – they do what you do.”
  • WHO ARE YOU INVESTING YOUR LIFE IN?  Preaching and other teaching opportunities are important, but be sure to be intentional about spending one on one time with key people, passing on the things you believe are most important.

GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF JESUS

  2. Jesus was more patient with His disciples than we can ever imagine. Even at the last supper, they were arguing among themselves about who is the most important person. Jesus surely poured into His disciples, but it certainly took time to get incorporated into their lives.
