GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO DRINK!

Take a look at these three photos! We are doing the same thing in India and Chicago!

We are going out into the streets to find who is thirsty and give them something to drink. We are going out to the crossroads and inviting as many as we can find to the banquet. This is so exciting! This is what Jesus told us to do!

Matthew 25:35 NIV

35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in

Matthew 22:9-10 NIV

9 Go therefore to the crossroads and invite to the banquet as many as you can find.’ 10 So the servants went out into the streets and gathered everyone they could find, both evil and good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.…

  1. What do we learn about God from these passages?
  2. What do we learn about people from these passages?
  3. How should we respond to these passages?
  4. Who can we share these passages with?

Ruth Khanna in Hyderabad, India and John Carey in Chicago, USA heard God’s voice to go out into the street and give people something to drink!

Just a block from her house, Ruth realized there were many cleaning ladies coming out of a bank building at the same time everyday after a hard day’s work. She decided to simply set up a table with chai and samosas and greet the people with a smile. Showing God’s love in a practical way! There were also cable men who had been working who also enjoyed the chai and samosas! She wants to do it regularly and make some friends!

God is moving among us no matter where we are! He is closer than you think!

In Chicago, we have been at the corner for 2.5 years every Saturday morning offering free coffee and prayer for anyone walking by. It’s a busy corner with two bus stops and a train overhead. We just casually approach people and ask if there is anything we can pray for. People are so surprised we are there with coffee and that we want to pray! We have a couple chairs for them to sit in if they want while we pray a short prayer for healing. So many people pour out their hearts and feel God’s presence right out there on the street corner! We have seen many people healed of various physical problems from arthritis to a spot on a lung, finding jobs and houses too!

Since we are on the same corner every week, we see some of the same people and know many by name. In two years, the atmosphere has really changed. When we first went down there, people would yell at us to go home. Now, people come and thank us for being there and caring about the community. Consistency really makes a difference when you want to do something for people outside.

So today I want to challenge you to love your neighbor out loud and give them something to drink! Be gentle and kind and see if they have any concerns you can pray about. Most people will say “yes,” and thank you! Try it and see!
