ISAIAH 30:18-19 NIV
Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you;
therefore he will rise up to show you
compassion.
For the Lord is a God of justice.
Blessed are all who wait for him!
People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more.
How gracious he will one when you cry for help!
As soon as he hears, he will answer you.
Thinking about our life, we realize we have been trying to say “yes” to God
and love our neighbors for 49 years!
We have lived in California, Florida, Georgia, Delhi and Bangalore loving our neighbors.
We love to tell stories of one guy in California who we invited to church, and he had a
vision of Jesus, and He forgive him of his sin. We found out later he had been in prison
and was a heroin addict that God delivered by Jesus at church!
When we lived in Florida, God. told me a neighbor was open to him. The association
sent around a petition to kick him out accusing him of dealing drugs. I knew it was wrong,
knocked on their door, met his girlfriend and we cried together. Then we did their wedding,
invited them to church, and she got healed of arthritis the first day. They got baptized in our neighborhood pool and delivered at the same time.
In Georgia, some neighbors were very rough. They drank and fought a lot, but they were
watching our family and invited us to the beach for a weekend. Our kids were kind to them and
babysat their little boy. I prayed for a cut on the wife’s leg and she got healed on the spot.
Another time she had a fever and was healed. Another time she fell down the stairs and hurt
her hip and was healed. She invited other neighbors to a bible study and we went through
Purpose Driven Life at her house with a group of ladies and their kids.
Then her husband cried out to God one night in his truck, saying “I want to know God!”
He was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied about their family and named their
upcoming baby Nathan Joseph.
Then we moved to Delhi and I began teaching English in a government housing project.
Some of the kids I taught 15 years ago, one family in particular are now all leading discovery
groups with seekers and two brothers are now Vineyard pastors in their 20s.
They are also distributing water filters to neighbors and praying for many.
They also write worship songs and teach others how to play guitar.
In Bangalore I taught English to many college students from Japan, Yemen, Congo, India, Sudan, and many other places. One guy from Yemen asked us to tell him how his sins could be forgiven. We helped him know Jesus and he believed in Him for forgiveness. He went into the military in Egypt and some of our friends baptized him there.
So these are some of the things I’ve seen as I have said yes to God and loved our
neighbors with my husband.
What have you seen Him do as you love your neighbors?
