Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered
Will soon deliver you
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will calm a storm with His hand?
Did you know
That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby
You’ve kissed the face of God
Mary, did you know?
The blind will see
The deaf will hear
And the dead will live again
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of the Lamb
“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”
Luke 1:47-55 NIV
So yes, Mary did hear from God about the baby Jesus but she had to live a life of faith day by day as the story enfolded in her family. How amazing to watch him grow up and do marvelous things. How heartbreaking to see him mistreated, beaten, and die on the cross. How exhilarating to see him rise from the dead! What a full life she had and how stretching in every way.
Help us be more like her this season as we listen to hear his voice and do what He tells us to do.
We are thrilled to be involved with people from so many cultures here in Chicago. Help us let the light of Jesus shine as we give to the poor and befriend the lonely.
Take a few minutes to ponder what God is saying to you through this song and story in Luke.
What would he have you do this holiday season to bless people?
