50th High School Reunion

Rick became the senior class president of his high school class in 1974 in California. So one of the traditional responsibilities is to plan class reunions. We lived in California and helped with the ten year reunion. Then we lived in Georgia but still attended the 20 year reunion. Then we lived in India for a while and missed the 30 and 40 year reunions. We had moved to Chicago in 2015. So last year we decided to help plan the 50 year high school reunion.

As we gathered together a team of people to help us we were so surprised to find out that several of them were believers in Jesus.

On one zoom call our friend Jan asked Rick, “So are you going to share the gospel?” Rick had become a follower of Jesus in high school. He even tried to share with classmates at school and at the ten and 20 year reunions. He wasn’t sure how well he was received.

But just a few months ago, we got an email from Denise who was the senior vice president with Rick. She’s a believer and wanted to help with the reunion. Kathy was a huge help but we didn’t know if she believed in Jesus until the night of the reunion

Rick got to share his testimony with 100 of his classmates from high school. So many people encouraged us after and it was like a celebration of what God had done. Kathy and her friend Kim were hugging us and dancing with us. It was amazing.

When Rick was in the tenth grade he started calling me on the phone. One day he said, when can I see you during the week ? since we attended different schools. I told him he could come to a Bible study on my side of town. He came and asked questions and became a follower of Jesus.

1 Peter 3:15New International Version

15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

I want to encourage you all to take a risk and try to share about Jesus whenever the opportunity arises. Don’t forget that all of heaven rejoices when one sinner comes to repentance!

I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
