16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:16 NIV)
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. (2 Cor. 5:20 NIV)
I want to tell you some stories to encourage you all to seize the opportunities before us in our everyday lives!
In Chicago, there are people from every different country rubbing shoulders. There are taxi drivers from all over the world! Even neighbors from so many different countries!
I want to share some experiences I’ve had recently here in Chicago!
One day, I walked a mile to the Fed Ex office to pick up a package and waited in line with a man from Africa. After we got our packages we both were walking on the street in the same direction. I asked him where he lived, and it turned out it was just a block from me so we walked together and I asked him about his country. It turned out he is a believer, 27 and the only one in his family in the USA. He works at a nursing home and feels it is so important to be kind to the residents there because they miss their families so much.
I prayed for him and felt very grateful for the work he is doing here in Chicago.
The other day we had an Uber driver from Ghana in Africa. We asked him if we could pray for him about anything. He said we could pray for his kids. He told us Jesus is His Savior and his kids have fallen away from Jesus. We prayed for him and he also prayed for us! It was so sweet. He has been here 50 years and told us how a pastor here in Chicago had led him to Jesus.
We are trying to make it a habit to ask our taxi drivers if we can pray for them. We have heard so many wonderful stories about different countries and places. One time a driver in Washington DC showed us a prayer list she had of the people she has given rides to.
Let’s seize the opportunities before us and show God’s love in a practical way by praying for our taxi drivers. Sometimes we even get to share the Gospel with people like when Rick went to the airport at 4 am one morning in Bangalore and got to share a story about Jesus healing a man with leprosy. That man had never heard a story about Jesus!
Let’s go out in Jesus’ name each day and shine the light in the darkness!
Matthew 5:16 NIV In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Would love to hear your stories as you go out and TRY!
