2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. 2 Timothy 2:2 NIV
One of the most exciting things we can do as believers of Jesus, is to pass on the ministry to others as we make disciples. We desire to see this happen more and more.
God chooses to use simple people and it’s happening in Delhi, in a very low income community of construction workers and their families who are migrant workers! They live in the basement of the building they are building and when the building is done, they move on to another location.
Raj, who is a 25 year old in the Karuna Vineyard in Delhi has been disciples by Pastor Mukesh Kumar for the last couple of years. He is quite friendly and has a knack for meeting people just in his everyday life. He notices people as he walks in the park, in the market, and wherever he goes. He has started about eight groups just by noticing people, asking if he can pray for them, and telling them stories about Jesus.
He has some amazing stories and I have shared one of them in a previous blog called “Let’s Make Disciples.” Several people have been healed and delivered as he prays for needs in the neighborhood.
Well, almost two years ago he started a discovery group using a small speaker that plays Bible stories in Hindi in the basement of a building under construction with migrant workers. The group has grown to about 15-20 women and children and a few of the husbands now and then if they get off work earlier on a Friday evening.
He started noticing a lady named Babli who seemed to be becoming a leader in the group and even initiated some prayer times. He has continued sharing with these people to take what they learn with others and pass on whatever they hear about Jesus. He has encouraged Babli to lead this group.
In the last month, Babli has started another discovery group with some ladies in a nearby park. She is doing what she has learned and making more disciples that can also make disciples.
This is such a beautiful thing and I just wanted to share so you can see how simple this is.
Anybody can do this if they just notice people, start up a conversation with them, and ask if they can pray for them or share a story about Jesus. Then ask them if you can come back and share another story at another time the next week.
Read 2 Corinthians 5:14-18:
For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation
- What does this text say? (put it in your own words). We are compelled by Christ’s love to do the ministry of reconciliation.
- What do we learn about God in this section?
- What do we learn about people in this section?
- How would your life change if you put this passage into practice?
- Who do you know who needs to hear this lesson?
Would love to hear your stories as you go and shine your light in the neighborhood!
Love this!
