What is God doing in Sri Lanka?

long lines to get petrol in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is in an economic crisis like never before. Inflation is out of control and there are shortages of fuel and petrol at the same time. People are standing in lines for hours to get fuel for cooking, petrol for their vehicles and even some basic needs like milk powder and rice.

People are in desperation trying to figure out how to survive.

But what is God doing over there? He is opening up people’s hearts to hear His voice and get closer to Him. To pray to Him to receive all that is needed for their families. To invite neighbors to come over for tea and listen to stories.

The Church has to get more creative in order to help people in their desperation. Tradition is not the answer. We have to bring hope to people where they can see it and feel it.

We have friends who are there even showing God’s love to people as they stand in line for petrol even at night. They pray for people’s needs and share what they have with their neighbors. They invite neighbors over for prayer and welcome them into their families.

They play music at home and invite neighbors to enjoy it with them.

This is what Jesus said when he saw a crowd of desperate people:

The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Pray for the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into the field. (Matthew 9:37)

Jesus said we need more workers. Please pray for the believers in Sri Lanka to rise up and seize the opportunities in front of them to share about Jesus.

Thanks for your prayers for Sri Lanka. We know at least a dozen pastors who get up at 5am every Wednesday morning to pray together no matter which church they are part of. They are loving each other and caring for each other in the midst of this national crisis.

May God bless Sri Lanka and hear the cries of the people today.

Luke 11:9-13 ESV
And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
