5 “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6 If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. 7 Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house. Luke 10:5-7 NIV
Let’s ask God:
- What do we learn about God from this story?
- What do we learn about people?
- What stands out to you the most?
- What does God want you to do in light of this story?
So, we are learning about how to find persons of peace around us even here in Chicago.
We go on prayer walks each day around our neighborhood, asking God to show us people that are open to Him. I have been noticing lately that sometimes people start talking to me first. So I take that as a sign from God that He has opened a door for me to have a conversation. When someone invites you over or offers you a drink, you may be on to a person of peace.
I interviewed a friend from Sri Lanka last night on zoom, and he had some amazing stories. They had very long petrol lines recently, and he would talk to people about Jesus even in the middle of the night. One guy fell asleep on his motorcycle, and when he opened his eyes, he looked up and asked our friend if he was a Christian! He had gone to school with our friend’s sister. What a great opportunity to share his testimony, and then he got his phone number and was invited over to his house. They now have a discovery group at his house.
We have been making friends with the salon owner in the bottom of our condo building. He has been open but had told us he needed to stop some things. The other day, he was reading the Bible when I went down there to get my hair cut. He said he had made a decision to recommit himself to Jesus and stop the things he shouldn’t be doing. He did this on his own. We have just been befriending him and he has been responding.
What about you? We challenge you to go out and find a person of peace where you live.
See if they are open to hearing more stories of Jesus, and begin a discovery group with them.
The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into the harvest.

What a great story about the guy on the motorcycle!
