Read Matthew 28:16-20
Meanwhile, the eleven disciples heard the wonderful news from the women and left for Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had arranged to meet them. The moment they saw him, they worshiped him, but some still had lingering doubts. Then Jesus came close to them and said, “All authority of the universe has been given to me. Now wherever you go, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And teach them to faithfully follow all that I have commanded you. And never forget that I am with you every day, even to the completion of this age.” THE PASSION TRANSLATION
Do you think the Jesus trained his disciples with a strategy to carry out Matthew 28:16-20? If so, what gives you that impression?
Read Matthew 4:19. Jesus called out to them and said, “Come and follow me, and I will transform you into men who catch people for God.” The Passion Translation
Read Matthew 4:23.
Jesus ministered from place to place throughout all of the province of Galilee. He taught in the synagogues, preaching the wonderful news of the kingdom and healing every kind of sickness and disease among the people. The Passion Translation
Read Matthew 9:35-38.
Jesus walked throughout the region with the joyful message of God’s kingdom realm. He taught in their meeting houses, and wherever he went he demonstrated God’s power by healing every kind of disease and illness. When he saw the vast crowds of people, Jesus’ heart was deeply moved with compassion, because they seemed weary and helpless, like wandering sheep without a shepherd. He turned to his disciples and said, “The harvest is huge and ripe! But there are not enough harvesters to bring it all in. As you go, plead with the Owner of the Harvest to thrust out many more reapers to harvest his grain!” The Passion Translation
How do you think these passages helped the disciples do Matthew 28:16-20?
Case study: Disciple makers going out into the harvest – visiting people on the street and in their homes. Praying for the sick and sharing the way to Jesus. Doing discovery groups with whole families. Going on prayer walks in the neighborhood and making conversation with people. Seeing people the way God sees them. Showing value to everyone.
Sharing with neighbors and inviting them over for a meal. Please pray for Erik who has a salon in our building. We are discipling him and he has recommitted his life to Jesus and stopped doing some things he needed to stop. We have befriended him and treat him like family.
