Finding a person of peace in Delhi

Rick turned 70 in Delhi!

Just got back from a trip to Delhi and Motrowala in North India. Our driver was Saroj who is a friend of Mukesh. He wanted us to meet his family in Wazipur village. The place we held our training event at was four flights of stairs up to a rooftop apartment. We met with about 20 young people three evenings in a row.

The day we went to meet our driver’s family, we found out their house was also four flights of stairs up to a rooftop apartment.

Saroj and his wife had just had a baby and wanted to show him to us. His mother-in-law was also there.

She could tell my knee was hurting and offered to massage it with oil. What kindness to me, a stranger.

Then another day, the mother-in-law wanted us to go to her house in Wazipur village. It was a tiny place in a dark gully on the bottom floor. She was so happy, she cooked food for us and invited her whole family and neighbors to come over and meet us. She gave me some bangles, earrings and even fabric to make a dress from her husband’s shop.

On our last night, she wanted to come to our hotel and brought her whole family and a birthday cake for Rick. He turned 70 there in Delhi. They even had the trick candles that are hard to blow out and took some funny photos of the event.

Now she is my friend on WhatsApp and wants to keep in touch. I really feel like she is a person of peace. Mukesh wants to start a discovery group at her house and I do believe she can gather a good group of people together.

Luke 10:5-6 — “Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him.”

  1. What do we learn about God from this story?
  2. What do we learn about people?
  3. How should we respond?
  4. Who should we share this with?
