A story from Sri Lanka visit

We visited a fairly new church in Sri Lanka full of new believers mainly from a Buddhist background.

The worship music was in Sinhala language and the people are just learning the songs.

People gave testimonies and psalms were read. The message was about going to the lost to share the good news and finding a person of peace that would be open to having a bible study at their house.

During the ministry time, I noticed a young lady was screaming and a few people went over to her and prayed for her.

Soon she was laying down on the floor and people continued to pray for her. I asked someone what had happened and she had been delivered from a demon. It was all so natural as if and it does actually happen almost every week in some kind of meeting in that small town. What a privilege to see this happen in such a natural way as God was doing His work among people that He loves.

It reminded me of Jesus speaking at a synagogue in Capernaum, so I just wanted to share that story:

Luke 4:31 Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he taught the people. 32 They were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority.

33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, 34 “Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”

35 “Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly. “Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.

36 All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!” 37 And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area.

  1. What do we learn about Jesus?
  2. What do we learn about people?
  3. How should we respond
  4. Who can we share this with?
